First I began repairing my problem from yesterday. The riveting went quite well.

The I torqued all the bolts and nuts. The I clecoed the lower skins, they will get riveted after the next inspection. As I wanted to screw on the inspection holes cover plates, I noticed I had not yet riveted the nuplates. So 48 nutplates and 96 rivets later the cover holes are installed.

This afternoon, I first begun by drilling out some rivets on the outboard right wing aileron braket. The bracket was not sitting flush on the rear spar. But as the rib was under tension, the holes got elongated by quite a bit. The solution, already approved by Vans (what a technical support), is to rivet a doubler plate before reriveting everything

Then I used Mickey Coggins', a swiss RV-8 builder, method to build the aileron stop. Normally the stops are made from some aluminium angle and riveted onto the inboard aileron bracket. Mickey's solution is simple and elegant. One of the spacer is inserted in a Delrin rod and when installed will hit the bracket at the end of the aileron's up travel. There is no down travel stop, this role is taken by the opposite aileron up travel stop. The picture of one of the stops :

Here a view of the stop installed, in the background you can make out the bracket the stop will hit at the end of it's travel.

The I primed all the small parts for the roll servo, I installed everything into the right wing. I just have to check the washers needed before torqueing everything.

Only two hours in the workshop today, between the return from vacation and the day job. I aligned both ailerons, first the aileron gets blocked in trail with the wing by aligning the trailing edge with two toolings holes on the outboard ribs.

Then by using the small blue jig, the rod's length is adjusted. The idea is to get the jig sitting flush on the spar. Here a picture before and after (they are not focused very well).

Then I began to look at the autopilot roll servo installation, as I want to prime the brackets, I'll finish the install next week.

The day begins with the building of the wing storing cradle. I did follow exactly Vans plan as I have to build the cradle as small as possible due to lack of storing space. I forgot to take a picture before transfering the wings from the jig. Here is the result.

The I disassembled the construction jig and cleaned up the workshop. I couldn't resist trying to install the ailerons. It begins with the fabrication of some spacers from aluminium tubing., and the the aileron gets installed on the wings trailing adge.

Here is one of the brackets, still some washers to install, this looks like some challenge. I also think that I should not have cut the spacers per plan, but have waited till the aileron is on the wing to get the correct diemensions. I'll do the when rigging the ailerons for the final time.

Today, I begun by riveting the parts I had prepared yesterday.

fr]Ensuite, premier montage du guignol de commande pour l'aileron. La montage est provisoire, les boulons ne sont pas positionnés correctement et sur une des ailes le guignol sera muni d'une servocommande pour le pilote automatique.[/fr]The I installed the aileron bellcrank, nothing is torqued as the bolts are in the wrong way and one of the bellcrank will be equipped with an autopilot servo.

The I reclecoed the inboard lower skin, the riveting will take place later as the wing has first to be inspected. Tomorrow I'll built the wing storing cradle.
