Before bolting the left fuel tank to the spar, I have to wire the gage. I first used a well documented method to label the wires i.e print the label on the computer and the install it with tranparent heatshrink. I tried printing on the heatshrink but the result doesn't seem very durable. I then bolted the tank to the spar, albeit only half the screws were accessible as I have to take the wing out of the cradle for the other half. After one week out of the shop (due to my day job), back to the installation of the wingtips. First I drilled, countersunk and riveted the small trailing edge rib. Then, as I choose to use screws to install the wingtip, I had to drill, countersink and rivet all the nutplates. There are 38 nutplates, that's 114 holes to drill (3 per nutplate : 2 rivets and one centerhole), 38 dimples and 114 holes to countersink. A lot of work to arrive at the result shown on the picture, where you can see some screws near the aileron bracket. And I only did the right wingtip, I'll tackle the left one tomorrow. Today I also begun the installation of the wingtips. First I had to re-rig the ailerons and check the alignment. Then the tips need to be cut at the trailing edge, to set the gap with the aileron. The whole contour of the tip needed to be cut back 1/16" to fit perfectly. After drilling small holes only (they will be enlarged later for screws), I installed the trailing edge rib that I'll drill later. I did the same operations on the roght tip but stopped short of drilling. Working time on this subpart Today : 3h (Total : 12h) |

Both fules tanks are now again on the spar. The right one definitively and it takes some time to torque the 21 bolts abd 80 or so screws. The left tank will have to come off once more as I still have to wire the gauge and don't have the wire available. Working time on this subpart Today : 2h (Total : 95h) |
