Closing of the right tank with special thoughts for the Z-brackets. No to many problems. Sabine gave a hand in clecoing and un-clecoing, helping with the pop rivets and part of the final cleaning. Here is an explanation for the prosealing of the rear baffle. First a line of sealant on and above the rivet line, then when positionning the rear baffle, it acts like a squeegee and normally forms a fillet on the inside of the tank. This is a picture of the first fuel bay, and it seems the fillet is here. So at least, this side of the first bay should not leak. Working time on this subpart Today : 4h (Total : 84h) |

Some small work on the lights. I tried to fit the HID lights I've bought recently. For this I used my fabricated support. Fixing on the support should not be a problem, but getting everything in the leading edge from the front will be one. I'll have to fabricate another, less tall, support bracket. On the picture, the Vans supplied light on the left and my HID lights in the middle, with ballast on the right. Working time on this subpart Today : 1h (Total : 26h) |

The day begins quite bad as I notice that despite my efforts to set the Z-brackets properly, I managed to mix-up my left and my right. So they are oriented correctly, but they are in the wrong order. First idea is to disassemble all the brackets and assemble again everything correctly. I decide to drill out first the outermost bracket and to rivet them at the correct place. I now have three brackets correctly set : the two outermosts and the middle one which has not to move. I then decide to install the tank on the spar and have the good surprise to see that I can insert all the bolts. That's quite a happy end. I then close the tanks, first the inspection hole cover. Then the fuel gauge, and to finish all the rivets get prosealed. Working time on this subpart Today : 4h (Total : 80h) |

Today, I begun closing the left tank. It's not difficult but quite long. On the picture, the rear baffle is in position. See all the clecos that will have to be cleaned. And here, four hours later. The Z-brackets are pop riveted, and their orientation is better checked twice as it would be quite difficult to dissassemble later. For this tank I still have to install the fuel gauge and the inspection door cover. Working time on this subpart Today : 4h (Total : 76h) |

The plane is not finished yet but we are slowly buying some items for the interiors. We do it depending on good deals and finances available. We just received our seats made by Flightline Interiors. We already had the stick grips, they were bought directly from the person supplying Van's. We bought the Hooker harness during a group buy on VansAirforce and saved 30% on the normal price. |
