Today it was sunny for two hours, this allowed me to ...mow the lawn.
After that I installed the tyres and tubes on the three wheels. First the main wheels, the rims have to be separated and the greasing of the bearings verified. The felt seal has to be greased too.

First some talc is put on the tube and tyre, then the tube is inserted into the tyre, being careful to align the valve with the red dot.

Then the first half of the rim is inserted into the tyre. The most difficult part was to get the valve into the grommet.
The the other part of the rim is bolted on. The tube is inflted and deflated a few times to be sure it seats correctly in the tyre.

For the front wheel, the principle is the same. But, the bearings are not greased and there is a bit less space for the assembly. The two halves of the rim might pinch the tube during assembly.

Here is how I did it, the clamps allow the tyre to be squeezed to be level with the first half of the rim. The tube is the put out of the way and the second rim-half installed.

As with the main wheels, the tube gets inflated and deflated a few times. Then the wheel is inserted in the fork. The bolt is quite loose as the brackets for the wheel pants have still to be installed.

The weather being cold and rainy, it's not possible to work on the canopy or do some painting. After having worked a bit in the house, I decided to fabricate the brake lines. Two small parts have to be installed on the tubing, it's easy once the hose have been heated in hot water. Only one side is done, the other side will be done once the brakes are in the fuselage.

Then I took all the wheel parts out of storage. I have some reading to do before beginning the assembly.

After yesterday's work with proseal, I decided to continue today by sealing the main gear legs intersection with the fuselage.

I used some leff over proseal to put a small screen in front of the vent line openings.

Sabine helped rivet the two steps. The operation is complicated by the fact we choose to seal the installation with proseal. It's still messy to use and needs a lot of cleaning. Here is a view from the outside.

And here from inside.

Catégorie: Engine : Firewall forward

Today I installed two more electrical items on the firewall. First the central grouding point with a few tabs on the engine side. The big bolt will get the cable from the negative side of the battery.

Here the cabin side, there are more tabs as there will be quite a few items to connect.

Then I installed the ANL fuse protection the alternator circuit. The use of the fuse allows to avoid having a big wire and big breaker in the cabin. The cable from the alternator will be connected to the left side, the right side being connected to the battery via the battery relay just above. To make the connection to the battery relay (actually the left side of the starter relay) I use some bend copper strip. I still have to tidy up the strip.

A picture of the two nutplates for the ANL fuse holder.
