I first filled the voids around the oil filler cap using epoxy and microballoons. For the time being it looks quite rough. I then remove the cap and rivet the two locks. And the cowl without the cap, still some filling and sanding to do. I then installed the lower cowl support bracket. This proved quite difficult as the bolts are hard to reach. I then installed the lower cowl as I intended to finalize the exhaust installation. But I ran into a problem as the lower camlock on each side is interfering with the engine mount. This was not visible as the cmlock support strips where installed because the bend sightly inward when ths cowl is installed. Ishoud have installed those two camlocks a bit higher. So that is what I did. It went quite well a the beginning but I managed to misdrill one of the holes in the cowl, this will have to be repaired using fiberglass and epoxy. No picture of all this as the camera decided to go on strike upon seiing all this errors. Working time on this subpart Today : 4h (Total : 49h) |

The oil filler door installation took some time as there is quite a lot of tweaking to be done. First I made the cuts on the door and on the cowl. Next I installed the hinge (it's not the standard Vans hinge). I had some problems with that, and it may need a bit more tweaking. The cutouts for the locks proved also to be less than easy. I'm statidied with the result, but it's not perfect. This is a view with the door open. I still have the rivets to install and the cowl to fill around the door.
